Psalm 121

I lift up my eyes to the hills — where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.  He will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber, indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.  The Lord watches over you — the Lord is your shade at your right hand, the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.  The Lord will keep you from all harm — he will watch over your life;  the Lord will watch over your coming and going, both now and forevermore. NIV

How many times have I laid awake, worrying about a problem or issue?  This passage clearly says that I don’t need to do that … God is watching over me, so that I can sleep peacefully.  God will keep my soul from all harm — He watches over my life.

The Message really drives this home with its translation of verse 2, “No, my strength comes from God, who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.” The Message

He made it all, He rules it all, He has it all under control.  God is not surprised by earthquakes, or by anything else for that matter.

It is not my job to worry or keep watch — it is my job to trust the all-knowing, all-powerful God and to spend my time here making a difference for Him.
