Psalm 62:5-8

Find rest, O my soul, in God alone;  my hope comes from him.  He alone is my rock and my salvation;  he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.  My salvation and my honor depend on God;  he is my mighty rock, my refuge.  Trust in him at all times, O people;  pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. NIV

Worry is exhausting!

Here, David reminds me that my soul can find rest in God, the source of my hope.

I love these verses.  God is my rock.  He is my salvation, my solid fortress, and my refuge.

Trust is the antidote to worry.  I must trust God at all times.

It is interesting to me that The Message translates verse 5 very differently, “God, the one and only — I’ll wait as long as he says.  Everything I hope for comes from him, so why not?” MSG

Often the uncertainty of the future is the cause of my worry, but, that translation points out that I can wait for as long as God wills, because everything I hope for comes from Him … on His timetable, not mine.  As I re-read that sentence, I realize it’s not quite accurate.  Uncertainty is not the cause of my worry … lack of trust and a dearth of patience are more likely the source of my worry and discontent.

The future will unfold with God’s perfect timing.

While I’m waiting — patiently — I must pour out my heart to Him and take refuge in Him.

Then, I will have true peace.
