Choose hope!

Psalm 119: 114

You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.  NIV

I’m still thinking about hope vs. worry.  The Bible reminds us over and over not to worry, and it also continuously reminds us to have hope.  This verse seems to combine both concepts.

The Message translates this verse, “You’re my place of quiet retreat, I wait for your Word to renew me.” MSG

It is interesting to me that in The Message “word” begins with a capital “W.”

I went to my Hebrew to English dictionary, which says that that “word,” in this verse means “promises” or “instructions.”

But, I love what the capital “W” implies.  I’ve heard Jesus referred to as the “Word of God.”  John 1:14 says, “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.  We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” NIV

As I think about this verse today, not only will I hope in God’s promises and in his instruction, but also in the fact that I am renewed through my salvation, a gift from Jesus, the Word of God.
