Worries are teachable moments

Psalm 119: 71

It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees. NIV

Wow.

I’ve felt like that.  I feel like that.

I’ve been faced with multiple worrisome situations in my life.  At those times, I’ve always taken the opportunity to, of course, worry.

But, thanks to both my parents who possess great faith, I had an example of what to do with my worries … take them to God and trust that He will handle them.

That’s easier said than done.

I often feel that I pray about something, I turn it over to God, and then I pick it back up on my way downstairs, or out the door, or wherever it is that I’m going next.

But, that act of consistently going to God with my problems, of seeking His will in times of trouble, has absolutely increased my faith and has definitely brought me closer to Him.  Ultimately, I find that I am able to leave the problem in His hands, and is at those times that I am truly free.  The Message translates this verse, “My troubles turned out for the best — they forced me to learn from your textbook.” MSG

When I think about this project, I am amazed at all that I have learned about what the Bible tells us about worry.

I think I agree with this verse.

Also, I think that the fact that this verse is here for me to find is comforting.  Others have walked the path that I am walking and have learned the lessons that I am learning.  Ecclesiastes 1:9 says, “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” NIV

I will think about that today.
