You’re safe with God

Proverbs 3:25-26

Have no fear of sudden disaster, or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked, for the Lord will be your comfort and will keep your foot from being snared.  NIV

For the moment, I’ve left Psalm 119.  There is still much more there, I think, on worry, but, it will wait for another time.

I went back to my “fear not” list, and this verse was next.

When I look at this one in The Message, it’s very comforting, “No need to panic over alarms or surprises, or predictions that doomsday’s just around the corner, because  God will be right there with you; he’ll keep you safe and sound.” MSG

There’s certainly a lot going on in our world today that is alarming and surprising — and I can see how people might think that doomsday is just around the corner, but, there are no worries here.  God is in control.

I am intrigued by the words in the NIV, “he’ll keep you foot from being snared.” It’s a reference, I think, to a trap set by a hunter.  The Message, I notice, doesn’t look at it that way.  For the translator of the NIV, the situation seems more personal, while The Message seems to take a broader perspective.

This is interesting to me.

I am not certain why there is a difference … but, it doesn’t bother me.   Both translations convey the same, important point.
