Psalm 22:4-5
In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. They cried to you and were saved; in you they trusted and were not disappointed. NIV
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much God expects us to share what we know and what is revealed to us with others.
In general, I think he expects us to lead by example, and that’s exactly, I think what this verse gets to. Here, the Psalmist reminds us that how we deal with our worries will teach others how to deal with theirs.
God tells us over and over again in His Word not to internalize our worry, not to carry our burdens on our own. He wants us to cry out to Him with our problems, just like a baby cries out when it has a need.
They cried to you and were saved … Don’t suffer in silence! Cry out to God … He wants to comfort you. There is something so wonderful about being the one to pick up the baby and calm its stress. I think God wants that with us.
In you they trusted and were not disappointed … Things may not turn out the way you want them to, but, you won’t be forsaken or disappointed if you’re truly trusting in God.
These principals aren’t new to me … cry out to God … you won’t be disappointed … I’ve seen these themes over and over, morning by morning. The new piece that I see this morning is the “our fathers” part.
In you our fathers put their trust; they trusted and you delivered them. For the Psalmist to write this, people had to have been talking about what God had done in their lives. They told others that they were worried or frightened or in a tight spot … they shared that they cried out to God with their worries … they gave God the glory for delivering them.
We can’t save ourselves. God knows that. I know that. But, does everyone know that?
